Connecting with ZOOM Webinar on a Computer

While waiting for the session to start, check your audio settings by clicking TEST MY SPEAKER to access ZOOM’s audio control panel.

 

There you can check out and test your computer system’s audio input and output. You can also switch to the video tab and check your image to prepare for being seen live by your fellow peers (you can always keep your camera off if you’d like).

 

Once the webinar is open, you’ll be prompted for your name and your email to join:

 

Then you’ll be connected and you’ll see the session title card. Check to make sure your audio is connected. If you cannot hear anything, click JOIN AUDIO on the lower left.

 

A window will pop up where you are prompted to select your audio connection. Click the JOIN WITH COMPUTER AUDIO button so that you can hear the session on your computer.

 

Once connected properly, your ZOOM window should look similar to this:

 

At the bottom of your ZOOM window,
you’ll have the following options at your disposal:

 

Audio Settings/Unmute

If you have been chosen to participate live, you’ll be promoted to a panelist and then you’ll see UNMUTE on the lower left of your ZOOM window:

Otherwise, you’ll see the Audio Settings option where you can adjust your ZOOM volume.

 

Start Video

If you have been chosen to participate live, you’ll be promoted to a panelist then you’ll see START VIDEO on the lower left of your ZOOM window:

Otherwise, you’ll see the Audio Settings option where you can adjust your ZOOM volume.

 

Chat

Please be mindful in your use of the chat, by responding to prompts from the host or to submit related comments. Your contributions to the chat during sessions are valuable to everyone’s experience. Click the CHAT button at the bottom of your ZOOM window to open the chat.

Sometimes, the tech host will disable the chat throughout the session. Here’s what the chat window looks like when chat is disabled:

Sometimes the Send to: field in the chat window will display: All Panelists.
Please change that to: All Panelists And Attendees so that everyone can see your chats.

 

Raise Hand

To ask a question or contribute live, you can raise your hand by clicking on the RAISE HAND icon at the bottom of your ZOOM window.

 

If you are chosen to come and ask a question or share, you will be promoted to a panelist.
You will then be able to unmute yourself and turn on your video.

 

Leave Meeting/Leave

If you need to update ZOOM or if you have problems with the session, go ahead and leave the meeting, update if you need to, and come right back using the same Meeting ID. This will reset and hopefully clear any issues you may be experiencing.
